A Levels

Student Debate

As well as offering a full-time programme, A Levels at Leek College may be combined with;
  • vocational courses such as BTEC National Certificates and Awards
  • part-time work commitments
  • family commitments.

This approach means that a wide range of people join our A Level programme including school leavers, young adults who wish to improve the qualifications that they obtained at school and adults who wish to gain A Level qualifications.

Katie Chandler

Katy Chandler

When Katie got an offer of a place at Manchester University on condition she gained AAB grades at A Level she immediately started planning a gap year thinking she could possibly re-sit the exams after taking time out. But there was no year off for eighteen-yearold Katie after she achieved not just two A grades, but an A* in her chosen subject of Sociology. Instead, she will be studying Sociology and Criminology at Manchester with a view to a career in either police or social work.

I was predicted to achieve 3 C grades so, when I found out I’d got an A* in my Sociology, as well as an A in ICT, a B in Media and a B in English, I was just over the moon and couldn’t believe it.

I’m really glad now that I chose Leek College for my A Levels. I felt that the classes in school were too big. Here in college you get much more support and you can talk to lecturers about anything.

But what I really liked about college is the timetables. You take just two classes a day instead of five. I prefer the longer sessions because I think that they help me focus better. The hours have also been a big help in getting me ready for university. I’ve got used to learning independently too so it will all stand me in good stead for my course at Manchester.
