Students at Leek College are taking part in a sponsored head shave next week to help raise money to save a young life.
So far, nine Sports students have volunteered to put their heads in the hands of their Barbering student colleagues at 1pm on Wednesday, 14th March in The HUB, Leek College.
The money raised will go towards the Ruby Owen Appeal, an appeal to raise money to send 4 year old Ruby to America for potentially lifesaving treatment.
Unfortunately, following successful treatment in America 18 months ago to remove an aggressive form of cancer on her brain, the cancer has returned, and Ruby now needs to return for another course of therapy.
Hairdressing Lecturer at Leek College Sharon Baker, said: “This little girl’s story touched the hearts of the students and they wanted to help Ruby. They are working hard to raise as much money as possible by shaving heads, selling cakes and through collection tins.
“The proceeds from the College’s annual Hair and Beauty competition in May will also be donated to Ruby’s fund.”
So far, the public have raised £118,839.43of the £120,000.00 target to pay for the treatment.
