Staffordshire Moorlands currently has a higher than national ageing population. In 2005 people aged over 65 constituted 18.6% of the total Moorlands population.  This is projected to increase to 27.7% by 2028.

Biddulph East: The ward as a whole is in the 20% most deprived wards nationally in the Index of Multiple Deprivation, with one part of the Ward (called “Super Output Area”) in the worst 10% nationally, and another SOA in the worst 15%.  The Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) is made up of seven constituent measures (domains).  At “Super Output Area” and domain level, even greater levels of deprivation exist:
