Impact assessment
The College will operate a process for assessing the impact (or likely impact) of its policies, practices and actions on race, disability and gender equality. These ‘impact assessments’ will seek to ensure that:
the College’s activities do not inadvertently disadvantage students, employees, or service users, and
opportunities to better promote equality of opportunity are identified.
The impact of Leek policies and practices will be assessed during their development. Existing policies and practices will be prioritised for assessment. A timetable for completing these assessments will be drawn up and staff will be trained to undertake impact assessment. In most cases, the College will seek to involve an appropriate variety of people in the process of conducting ‘impact assessments’.
A Single Equality Scheme
Although there are many similarities in the three duties, the College acknowledges that there are also important differences. In adopting a unified approach it is the College’s intention to ‘level up’ across all equalities areas and to utilise the highest standard from each duty. In addition, the College will ensure that equality impact assessments, whilst utilising the same process for all strands, will consider the impact on disability, gender and race equality separately.
