Learning Support at Leek College

Support for students with disabilities

You are welcome at Leek College and are supported in any way you need, discreetly or with note taking and typing up of assignments.

The College works with Staffordshire ASSIST to provide specialist support for hearing and visual impairment.  Because Staffordshire ASSIST provide support in schools,
you may know the staff and they will know your needs.

Laptops can be provided through the Learning Support Fund (see Val Smith for more information.)

Disabled access through ramps and lifts is available in all areas of the college except engineering and parts of Art Provision.

Disabled toilets are located in all areas of College with hoists and a professional, personal care worker available if necessary.

Case Studies – Dan Finney

DanFinney

Dan attended 2006-2007, studying Level 2 programme in Computing and Health and Social Care, plus GCSE English.  Dan hadn’t done any qualifications at his school.  Sue and the team worked with Dan to sort out a programme of support and Dan and the team worked with teaching staff to make sure they could meet Dan’s needs.

Dan achieved a Distinction grade in Health and Social Care, a Merit in IT and a grade C in GCSE English.  Dan’s now taking a break from studies, helping others with disabilities in the community – but might be coming back for the Access Course to go into Higher Education.
