Meeting Your Needs

Initial Assessment

Every new full time and many part time students undertake a diagnostic assessment to identify any support needs. Every student has an initial interview during which any support needs arising from a disability or learning difficulty are discussed and a support plan designed.

Support

The College contracts with Staffordshire ASSIST to provide support for students with sensory impairment. We also employ a number of Learning Support Assistants who provide other support in class or in dedicated sessions. Special examination arrangements are made where needed. Support Plans are designed in consultation with you and are tailored to individual needs. With your permission, staff teaching on your course are informed of and are part of the plan. Progress is monitored through ‘ON TRACK’.

Honeycomb Programme

Student making a log chairFor those with learning disabilities who need time and support to access level 1 programmes or employment, the Honeycomb Programme provides Entry Level vocational and basic skills qualifications. Financial Help

The Learning Support Fund is available to help with childcare, travel, materials and maintenance for students aged 16+. The fund is means tested on household income. If you receive an award, you are required to achieve 100% attendance (apart from authorised absences for illness) and participation on your course. Application forms are available in College, and you can discuss your needs before you apply.

Educational Maintenance Allowance

The level of support depends upon household income, but can be up to £30 each week with additional bonuses for achievement. Payments do not affect any benefit payments made to the household.
