Additional Activities
The Student Association
You can develop your communication and interpersonal skills by becoming a Course Team Representative. Attending staff team meetings, you will feedback fellow students’ options on the structure and delivery of your course. All course team reps meet as the Student Association Board, led by the annually elected Student Governor. The Student Association is affiliated to the National Union of Students giving students access to activities and discounts.
Enrichment Activities
A number of activities are offered, many on a Wednesday afternoon, so that you
can enhance your skills, challenge yourself and have fun. If you have classes, your
Learning Guidance Advisor will arrange for your group to access activities at other
times.
- Activity sessions include football, netball, multi gym, outdoor pursuits, skiing,skating and bowling.
- Skill sessions include deaf awareness and first aid.
- Personal development workshops include relaxation, dealing with stress, dealing with relationships, and dealing with bullying.
Full information will be available during Induction.
Event Management
Travel, Tourism and Sport student teams develop vital business and communication skills through the organising and marketing of real events to the public. Recent offerings include a Murder Mystery Evening and a Valentine Event.Fitness
You can develop your fitness in the fully equipped multi gym at lunchtimes. A qualified personal trainer will assist you in building a personal training plan. If you are following a Sport course, you will have the chance to become one of our qualified paid student trainers.
Panto Time
Design, production and acting skills can be developed each year in the Christmas Panto. Staff and students join to make this a highlight of the year.
Fund Raising
Developing teamwork skills is an important part of personal development. Courses
run fund raising activities throughout the year: imaginative events include ‘Climbing Everest’ involving students and members of the community in relays to
climb the height of Everest – a feat which raised nearly £3,000.
You will also be encouraged to take part in Comic Relief and Children in Need
fundraising activities.
Work Experience
You will be given the opportunity to complete work experience as a part of your course. If you study Travel, Tourism and Sport, you will be able to take part in the biennial trip to Spain as well as research and experiences which develop your personal skills.
Climbing, Caving and Team Building
The ability to work with others and meet challenges are essential: all courses take
time out to work at Upper Limits Indoor Climbing and Caving facility to develop
skills and build trust and confidence.
Sports
You can maintain and develop sports skills in the football or netball teams based at Leek. The football teams have been outstandingly successful in the Staffordshire League over the past two years and the netball team is developing a strong base.
Citizenship
We actively encourage you to develop your awareness of traditions and responsibilities. Every year we observe Remembrance Day in a special Ceremony in the College courtyard and have a remembrance related exhibition in the College entrance foyer.
Presenting Yourself
The Leek Campus’s highly successful Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Courses students can offer high quality treatments at a cost to suit student pockets. Treatments range from waxing, massage and facials to the latest cuts for men. Prices lists and booking arrangements are widely publicised at the Campus.
Annual Hairdressing and Beauty Competition
If you choose to complete a Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy qualification, you will be able to take part in our annual competition which is sponsored by local employers. This will give you the opportunity to raise money for a chosen charity and to display your many skills and talents.
Annual Art Exhibition
If you choose to study Art at the Leek Campus, you will be given the opportunity
to display your work at the Annual Art Exhibition.
